Helpful Hints on Working with Foreign Vendors

Contracts.  Always have a written contract in place with the vendor that has been reviewed and signed by Yale Procurement.  Allow enough time for Yale Procurement to review the contract and negotiate with the foreign vendor as needed.  Foreign vendors often try to convince U.S. customers to enter into the relationship without a written contract by insisting that “X country doesn’t use contracts.” Though foreign contracts are often not as robust or detailed as what we are used to seeing in the United States, despite what the vendor may tell you, contracts are in fact widely used in other countries.
